KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Wild Wire by resident artist Jonathan Kermit Opens first Friday October 2nd, 5pm–9pm Discarded twisted, rusty wire forms the basis of my current work. Working intuitively with a vague sense of plan, I coax and join bits of wire into anthropomorphic shapes, whimsical forms and dream like objects. I incorporate details on paper from other areas of interest which include drawing, collage, cyanotype and found images. I became a collector of urban flotsam at a very young age, picking up rusty bits and oddments that I would stash in small boxes. About a dozen years ago I started collecting rusty wire which turned into an obsession and eventually found its way into my artwork. Synesthesia is a phenomenon in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses, as when hearing a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color. Much like the experience of synesthesia, these works display disparate environments occurring as one. Though there is no single element that each painting shares, they are all distinctly of the same universe. These are dreamscapes where real life elements occur in fantastical arrangements that are both surreal and coherent. This is a universe where pitcher plants tower above the clouds, where 50’s inspired pin-ups with psychedelic skin-tones lounge on distant planets, and where the vastness of sea merges with that of outer space. KALEID Gallery is proud to present a new series of paintings by resident artist Jonathan Crow.I use a muted palette to create oil paintings that recall the vibrancy and optimism of America during the Cold War, reframed to reflect the anxiety and uncertainty of this current era. I draw inspiration from vintage snapshots culled from the 1950s through to the 1980s and use them in a way that creates compositional tension between positive and negative space.I’m drawn to images that seem to be small parts of a larger narrative; images that raise more questions than they resolve. KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “We had rain, sun, and clouds.” Recent Journals by resident artist Gianfranco Paolozzi A few years ago Paolozzi officially switched the titles of all his art pieces–past and present–to “Journals” because they are forever evolving until they are sold (unsold works go back to the studio where they continue to be added to, or edited). For the past three years he has continued to be prolific with his “Journals” series; this exhibition features the latest iterations of his work. Gianfranco was born in a small Italian village in 1952. He has always been an artist and musician; he remembers drawing and creating art from as early as preschool and received his prized accordion at the age of 9 which he continues to play while performing with his Paolozzi Tango Trio.
