Julie Barrett

Julie Barrett Bilyeu bio (born and raised in the bay area) currently living in Castro Valley.
Graduated 1999 California State University Chico with a BA degree in Drawing and Ceramics.
Charcoal, Dry-Pastel, Graphite are my primary mediums with some exploration into mixed media and
Cutting edge hanging techniques.

Currently I am working on a series of drawings that are about Scavengers and Cannibals…I am investigating the beauty and horror beneath scavengers and cannibals. The conventional hanging techniques are quite expensive, a.k.a. professional framing, and also extremely boring to me. I see the hanging of my drawings as part of the pieces, choosing to go frameless, using metal hardware, and snapping them straight to the wall are some of the ways I use to add to the integrity of my work. These drawings will be featured at Kaleid gallery, downtown San Jose in June 2014.
