“Meditations” by Leslie Ann Rice Bock Solo Exhibit November 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Meditations by Leslie Ann Rice Bock. Each piece acts as a meditation on the time, location, and people that make up the firing celebration. This ongoing art project started in 2014, capturing my journey and joy learning the wood fire process at Spring Valley Anagama. Wheel thrown, altered, then wood fired, each piece is unique in its formation, its placement in the kiln, and the firing which is showcased upon the surface. The deposits of ash that turn to glaze, the pathway of the flame upon the surface serve as a reminder of the process and community built during the firing. I call them my creatures, because that is what they are – unknown organisms that take shape in my mind, the roots of which come from a lifelong interest in strange biology, microscopic life, the human body, and basically anything else ooey, gooey, creepy, strange or unusual. Karen Carlo Salinger lives and works in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Silicon Valley. She earned her BFA in 1997 from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California. Since graduation her art has been focused on painting, intricate pen and ink drawings, and sculpture with unusual materials, such as urethane, plastics, and mixed-media. Her artwork is a blending of strange biology…
