Lifecasting Series by Luis Jorge Mieses February 2021

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Lifecasting Series by resident artist Luis Jorge Mieses. A feature exhibition for the month of February 2021. Exhibit opens First Friday February 5th, 5pm–9pm. The idea behind this series is to show the numerous ways the body parts could be captured. I copy the human figure because as time passes the only things left are the beautiful memories embodied in the sculptures.I make them for different purposes; from getting a commission of an artistic piece to show to keeping memories of our loved ones.Making sculptures represents intimate time with myself. Through it, I get to relax, feel plenty and express my creativity trying to capture the beauty I see around me.I started modeling clay, wood carving and preparing molds for the bodies of animals that I needed for taxidermy, trying – in some way – to restore the animal’s lost life in an artistic form.…

“Shelter” feature exhibition by Brittni Paul Nov. 2020

Art work by Brittni Paul from her Shelter exhibition. KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Shelter by resident artist Brittni PaulShelter: to protect oneself from something harmful, like bad weather. This title was initially given to a piece I completed in October 2019 to describe a mother Pangolin protecting herself and her child in the shelter of a hollow tree trunk. This piece is meant to capture a moment in time where mother and baby are safe in their shelter, much like how we humans shelter-in-place with our loved ones. This exhibition focuses on endangered species sheltered in their homes, weathering out the storm that is extinction. As we sit in our homes contemplating a new way of life, let’s implement eco-friendly habits to protect what’s left of this earthly speck. What better time than now? Brittni Paul is an environmental activist, mix-media illustrator and muralist of flora, fauna and magic!…

My 3 x 3 World; the Post-It Note Art of Ed Attanasio

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: My 3 x 3 World; the Post-It Note Art of Ed Attanasio Opens first Friday October 2th, 5pm–9pm Ed Attanasio, 62, started sketching as a form of rehab after he had a mini-stroke on August 4, 2009. Little did he know that eventually, his illustrations would lead to a career as an artist, astounding critics, gallery owners, his friends, and even himself.Ed drew these characters only as part of his post-stroke therapy and today sells originals and prints for prices he could never envision. In 2013, Ed’s “Bushers” image became a graphic novel and shortly thereafter his art career really began to flourish. Known as “outsider art” or “folk art,” Attanasio’s Post-It creations have sold online and through galleries in the U.S., UK, Canada, South America, Australia, Germany and Russia, just to name a few. Exhibition dates: October 2–30, 2020Gallery Hours: Fridays 5–9pm &…

Wild Wire by Jonathan Kermit October 2020

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Wild Wire by resident artist Jonathan Kermit Opens first Friday October 2nd, 5pm–9pm Discarded twisted, rusty wire forms the basis of my current work. Working intuitively with a vague sense of plan, I coax and join bits of wire into anthropomorphic shapes, whimsical forms and dream like objects. I incorporate details on paper from other areas of interest which include drawing, collage, cyanotype and found images. I became a collector of urban flotsam at a very young age, picking up rusty bits and oddments that I would stash in small boxes. About a dozen years ago I started collecting rusty wire which turned into an obsession and eventually found its way into my artwork. As an ardent recycler, it gives me a certain sense of satisfaction being able to turn a small bit of landfill trash into something else. Exhibition dates: October 2–30, 2020Gallery…

Synesthesia feature exhibit by Jennifer Carrier

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:“Synesthesia” by resident artist Jennifer Carrier. Opens first Friday September 4th, 5pm–9pm with artist in attendance. Synesthesia is a phenomenon in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses, as when hearing a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color. Much like the experience of synesthesia, these works display disparate environments occurring as one. Though there is no single element that each painting shares, they are all distinctly of the same universe. These are dreamscapes where real life elements occur in fantastical arrangements that are both surreal and coherent. This is a universe where pitcher plants tower above the clouds, where 50’s inspired pin-ups with psychedelic skin-tones lounge on distant planets, and where the vastness of sea merges with that of outer space. Jennifer Carrier is a visual artist from the San Francisco Bay Area. Jennifer has…

“The Lexicon of Time” feature exhibit by Jojo Perea

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “The Lexicon of Time” by resident artist Jojo Perea Opens first Friday September 4th, 5pm–9pm with artist in attendance. A visual depiction of a crystallized thought. Our true nature and form are fractals. The old and new both come in cycles. Birth and rebirth are the ultimate projection, abstract by nature but mathematical by design. The titles change but the archetypes remain the same. Historically we are the collections of our ancestors wisdom. In our DNA, written symbols etched in stone, paper, and spoken history. Art. It’s all a repeating pattern, archaic emotions of Fear and Love. Choose the energy and the path that serves you. Look to your environment for inspiration. Your past and future are malleable based on your creation of your Now. KALEID is open for viewing this exhibit (and 60 other resident artists on view) Fridays & Saturdays from September…

“Gateway by Glyph” by Laurus Myth Feature Exhibtion

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Gateway by Glyph: a reprise of inner realmsnew work by resident artist Laurus MythAs architectural forms create a means of passage, an arch or entryway marked with glyphs deciphers what lies ahead. The challenges of introspection are alike my relationship with doors and windows. To see-through, to pass by, or to enter is a continuous practice of choice and at times, chance. My language is influenced by nature, technology, and intuition. I use this practice to decode my experience.Visible through diaphanous layers, circles intersect and repeat into a shape I refer to as the seed. Symbols and rituals are a part of human heritage. Like stories passed on, visual language is an extension of memory, an abstraction of experience, and a tool for communication. These paintings and sculptures are the result of my journey back into creation. Each piece is close to me in a way…

“Cul-de-Sac” by Jonathan Crow Feature Exhibition

Golden State Drive by Jonathan Crow, Oil on canvas, 40″ x 30″, 2020. KALEID Gallery is proud to present a new series of paintings by resident artist Jonathan Crow.I use a muted palette to create oil paintings that recall the vibrancy and optimism of America during the Cold War, reframed to reflect the anxiety and uncertainty of this current era. I draw inspiration from vintage snapshots culled from the 1950s through to the 1980s and use them in a way that creates compositional tension between positive and negative space.I’m drawn to images that seem to be small parts of a larger narrative; images that raise more questions than they resolve. My paintings are fragments of mid-20th century suburban life where disaster seems to lurk just beyond the frame.About the Artist:Jonathan Crow creates images that combine symbols of American mid-century nostalgia, in particular the suburb, with today’s mood of anxiety and…
