Part of the First Fridays ArtWalk SJ. “GODS LIKE US” is a collection of acrylic paintings spanning two years of work by artist Jemal Diamond. An experiment in the confining shape of the circle – an undoubtedly profound and universally significant shape, the pieces cast a spotlight on unique clusters of contrasting and complementary shapes. “The Age of Enlightenment” David Mejia Solo Exhibit April 2023

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: The Age of Enlightenment David V. Mejia solo exhibition We owe much to the thinkers and innovators of the Enlightenment period. Explorers, inventors, mathematicians, scientists, politicians, philosophers, and writers changed people’s lives, how they see the world, challenging the thousand-year-old Medieval authority.  This was the dawn of our modern world. My art show explores some of the key figures like Isaac Newton, John Locke, Voltaire, and others who gave us concepts we take for granted today, such as gravity, representational government, and Liberty.  I’ve pulled together my interest in Western history and philosophy, with a blend of art styles from early European paintings and political cartoons, modern comics, caricature art, and watercolors. Immerse yourself in them and see whatever you want. One of the things I like most about doing abstract art is when people tell me what they see in a particular piece. I want each viewer to get their own idea or message from my art. Consider them a Rorschach test for imagination instead of psychoses. Unless you are psychotic, in which case, friend me on Facebook. Fruit and Mammals by Denis Korkh

There is nothing that could unite Fruit And Mammals together except their squareness; 3 x 3 feet each, spaced 3 feet apart, and that I made them in sequence. And that I made them. Each painting is a stray thought (with layers and layers of more thoughts underneath) and the layers are no more related than the five paintings are between each other. I start by making the canvas as ugly as possible: the worst colours, awful–seriously awful– lines and shapes. I make the grossest compositions until I reach a point where, no exaggeration, it is hard to bear to look at them; I truly cringe inside. Each painting went through this between two and six times before I let it become finished. ~Denis Korkh
