Although she succumbs to her illness and dies, he still tries to keep her alive.through the layers of “reality” he has layered in his own reality. She exists between the planes of the here and the gone; he can’t tell the difference except for the crackles and blasts of his brain breaking…breaking through to her. Sometimes their connection is clear. She is alive with him, she is his – laughing and seemingly interacting with him. Then the crackling happens and he loses her; she can’t hear him anymore. “Terraforming the Uncanny Valley” by Julie Meridian & Lucidbeaming February 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Terraforming the Uncanny Valley” a series of paintings from a collaboration between painter Julie Meridian (San Jose) and tech artist Lucidbeaming (Berlin). Opening reception: Friday February 2nd 5pm–9pmpart of the First Fridays ArtWalk SJFree admission & all ages. Lucidbeaming’s algorithmic remixing of historical landscapes is reimagined in paintings by Julie Meridian. His algorithmic experimentation with synthetic terrain combined with her eye for bringing realistic detail back in to virtual imagery yields a new kind of landscape. From a painting tradition that celebrated unspoiled nature to remixes made real through human interpretation, the end result is a vision that hints at a future when the environment re-forms after humanity’s presence…and the marks it has left with technology. Both artists are deeply grounded in both traditional and digital art practices. They are pursuing ethical AI experimentation to better understand the nature of what can emerge. About…

My forehead, palms, and pits are sweaty, but I’m so cold that I’m shaking. It’s hard to breathe. My vision is narrow with the center most saturated then the outer fading to a blur. My heart beats against my rib cage as if it is trying to break out of its prison. I feel like I am falling, but I’m pretty sure I am standing. My thoughts race so fast that I can’t process a single one. I’m confused. I’m afraid. And I’m certain this is going to be my demise. You’re having a panic attack. But they keep happening. You have panic disorder. I had my first panic attack when I was nineteen years old and…

And however you want to describe them, they should be fun. Each piece in this show is a collage of whatever feelings, inspirations, and intuitions are affecting at the time of creation. Immerse yourself in them and see whatever you want. One of the things I like most about doing abstract art is when people tell me what they see in a particular piece. I want each viewer to get their own idea or message from my art. Consider them a Rorschach test for imagination instead of psychoses. Unless you are psychotic, in which case, friend me on Facebook. “Being.” Jennifer DeChenne Solo Exhibit February 2023

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Being. Jennifer DeChenne Solo ExhibitionArtist’s Reception: First Friday February 3rd 5pm–9pm I often find myself struggling with anxiety, which manifests itself in excessive thought and worry. I have found respite from these thoughts through day-dreaming, imaging beautiful, calm places where I would rather be. In order to create these paintings, I have tried to focus on the feeling that is evoked when I enter my dream space, and to allow that to guide me to the images in these pieces.  People often ask me if my paintings represent anything, whether the themes, symbols and shapes are representative of some sort of hidden message that I am trying to communicate. The answer to that question is that these paintings do not represent anything other than themselves and the feeling that they draw from the viewer. The feeling of the breeze on your face or the…
