Coexist & Bisect
Two new manifestations by René Lorraine

René Lorraine's latest work is a fascinating take on man coexisting with unfamiliar species, ideals, and life styes that one may find on this earth. Coexist deals with embracing differences between souls and the shells they reside in, and is an unbeatable experience involving a harmonious dance between crisp clean line, and free-flowing watercolor pigments. Bisect is about the challenges one person may have desiring two very different life styles.  The delicate graphite mimic's the fine line of having balance and not.

René Lorraine is a graduate of San Jose State University with a BFA in Pictorial Arts, and an A.A in Painting.

Ras_Kfeature.jpg

Shadows of Light, from the Hidden Sun A vision of the Authentic self by Ras Lowe.
This Art message is about deep personal inner visions, a progressive transmission of sacred information for the 21st. century, from the ancient temples of Egypt, to the jungles of Holy Peru. Remembering every moment in Life is a gift, and is precious, not to be wasted.

Ras Lowe is a graduate from San Jose State University, MA, Urban Planning, and BA, in Black Studies-( African American Studies) He has lived in San Jose since 1969 and is retired  currently teaching (Japanese Swordsmanship)  Ken-do at SJSU.

Exhibit on view through September 24, 2010.

Find Your Muse at the Eclectic & Quirky TWO BUCK Tuesday this Tuesday, July 20th, 7-10pm.

A bodypainter creates timely work about our relationship to oceans, A production company stays in San Jose instead of moving to LA, A performer dances for peace, and a local professor rediscovers artistic inspiration at KALEID Gallery's monthly Two Buck Tuesday event.

TWO BUCK Tuesdays is an inspired event hosted by a crew of very dedicated artists at KALEID Gallery on the Third Tuesday of the month. Artists and audience alike are invited to attend, contribute and share in this unique event all free of charge.

The Two Buck Tuesday Crew organizes artistic, creative speakers, live demos, performances and live music jammed into three hours for a hyper shot of inspiration that you'll carry with you all month long until the next one.

"One thing all these speakers and performers have in common is passion and inspiration. They've all found their muse and want to share it," says July curator Trina Merry.

On July 20th from 7-10pm the public can see and speak with many amazing artists, performers and musicians and purchase $2 art (starting at noon.)

The speaker series has garnered a cult following. Similar to the idea of TED Talks, each speaker gets 10 minutes (or less) to speak and answer questions.

This month's speaker series line-up includes:

SeaSkin.jpg

Sandy Sanjurjo will do a walk-through talk about her feature "SeaSkin" Exhibition at KALEID Gallery.

"SeaSkin was born from the notion that we are, as humans, directly connected with our environment. We are a part of the air we breathe, the earth we derive nourishment from and tread on, the water we play in and consume," says Sanjuro.

"Initially we wanted to donate to Oceana for their 'Save the Sharks' project, but of course, with the devastation in the gulf it only makes sense for the money to go towards the clean-up effort. We will leave it in Oceana's capable hands to determine where they can best use the funds. The message of this show rings even more true now, that we are physically connected with the health of our planet, and this terrible oil slick will harm us in ways we cannot yet predict. It will leave a very deep scar on our skin."

KevinPowers.jpg

Kevin Powers, local professor, will talk about Inspiration, how it relates to the art making process, and tips on getting re-inspired.

Element151.jpg

Element 151 Films, a San Jose-based production company, will screen some of their music videos & share why they're here instead of LA.

Performance by Khalilah Ramirez who will share her "Dance of Peace". "The purpose of the Dance of Peace is to help foster peace in people's hearts. It makes people smile. It makes dogs bark. It gets people talking to each other. It turns the conversation towards peace. It is fun and silly. It takes people's minds away from their everyday worries," says Kalilah Ramirez.

DGainesTBT.jpg

Daniel Gaines Photography will help artists whip their websites into shape by shooting web-ready jpgs of artwork for only $2. Please limit to 5 works that are 36"x48" or smaller. http://danielgainescreative.com

Classical Guitar performance by Trent Endsley.

About Oceana: Oceana, founded in 2001, is the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation. With offices in North America, Central America, South America and Europe, Oceana builds strategic and directed campaigns that will help return our oceans to former levels of abundance. They believe in the importance of science in identifying problems and solutions. Their scientists work closely with their teams of economists, lawyers and advocates to achieve tangible results for the oceans.

About Sandy: "I'm not a "tree-hugger". I'm not a radical environmentalist. I'm just a person who paints. My art is inspired by a world that is desperately in need of our guardianship. I am compelled, I am determined and I am inspired."

Gary Coleman, oil and pastel painter, will explore artistic priorities. LIKE: Does painting to sell have to mean selling out? If it does (just a little), does the artist hoard his/her own work? Is it selling out to paint for recognition and respect? Is fun more fun than suffering? Is it necessary to continue to "build a body of work", or is it OK to move on to something else when the body seems to be getting old? Gary will show some of his own work to illustrate his own decisions. He is over 70 years old, and so you should listen to and respect his wisdom.

Lisa Fisher-Mejia has been performing bellydance in the Bay Area for the past 5 years. She has also performed in Seattle and Los Angeles. She sews a lot of her own costumes. She likes to experiment with a fusion of dance forms, including gothic, tribal, East Indian, and Burlesque. At KALEID, she'll be performing the standard Cabaret style bellydance taught to her by her Mother (who was a bellydancer in the 1970s).

This month's Two Buck Tuesday is curated by Kate Stewart and is focused on skills. The skills you need to pay the bills, not monetary bills, no, nothing so crass, but the spiritual bills that we all run up living our daily life of compromise and practicality. Pay off the debt of wonder and satisfaction that you owe yourself with our panel of experts.

HEAR THE SPINE-TINGLING TALES OF:
--> OLLIE MOORE as he reveals to you the secrets of bike racing, giving birth (for fathers,) and the San Jose music scene. HE HAS THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

--> GIANFRANCO PAOLOZZI has a story to tell you. "falling in love...yes...falling in love...you know!...when you are surrounded with that colorless odorless cloud that paralyzes you for minutes or years and you really do not know why but something is happening in your brain and you only see in front of you what is making you stunned...what is making you so passionate...what is making you finally again realize that life after all is good...yes...falling in love....and happened to me again...with a sound..." DOES THIS NOT SOUND LIKE THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS?!

LEARN:
--> The epochs-old art of Serigraphy with MICHAEL FOLEY. So simple that a child could manage it, and yet invaluable to our modern lifestyle, Serigraphy can give you THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

--> Secrets tucked within your own soul as MATTHEW SEIGEL helps you uncover the lost technologies of letter writing. Do you know how to connect without email or facebook? Do you know what a stamp is? When is the last time you wrote your Grandmother? Charm friends and relatives while creating priceless records of the age that your grandchildren will cherish! Two Buck Tuesday brings you another of the SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

SEE THE INEFFABLE DRAUGHTSWORK OF:
--> Man-about-town ALVYN VILLANUEVA is as comfortable on the dance floor as he is with a paintbrush. Look upon his blog at www.mushapartment.com and know: HE HAS THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

--> When zombies attack, go find MO MACHADO. HE HAS THE SKILLS THAT SAVE YOUR BRAINS!

--> Musician and comic artist ANDREW POISONER GOLDFARB has toured America with his spooky rock show, produced and published his own comic series "The 10,000 Sorrows of Ogner  Stump," and recently won KFJC's 50th Anniversary logo contest. Check out http://www.ognerstump.com/ and discover what so many already know: HE HAS THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

--> Found at the age of 13 in a hollow log, AIDAN CASSERLY adjusted quickly to his new role in human society. Behold the man at http://www.aidancasserly.com/. HE HAS THE SKILLS THAT PAY THE BILLS!

All this plus aural intoxicants, culinary dainties, and amazingly affordable art awaits you at KALEID Gallery on the 15th of December from 6-9pm.
