“Meet You Halfway” by Julie Meridian _ May Feature Exhibit

KALEID Gallery is proud to present the feature exhibition:Meet You Halfway by resident artist Julie Meridian. An artistic call and response brings new life to fast art. This show of newly re-painted landscapes picks up where paint nights leave off to interpret the same scene through another lens. See how social, guided art expresses itself in ways that veer towards abstraction when compared to carefully rendered realism. What’s different that rings true to make it a sense of a place? What’s the same that may have only been hinted at in the original art? Each one honors the way life continues, in often subtle ways, all around us. About the Artist:Julie Meridian captures the essence of people and places through representational art that reveals impressionist details. Her art often highlights moments of contemplation and peaceful solitude. Natural and unassuming poses create a pervasive sense of being truly present. This solemn eye…

“Pretty Things on the Upswing” by Jemal Diamond_April Feature Exhibit

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Pretty Things on the Upswing” new work by resident artist Jemal Diamond. Opening reception: First Friday April 2, 2021, 5–9pm. “Pretty Things on the Upswing” is a collection of new one-of-a-kind paintings on paper in acrylic marker. With light at the end of a dark tunnel, pretty things grow from the ashes of the past. This new work is improvisational, with no intended outcome – only hopeful surprises. Within that spontaneous framework, there are intentional embedded dichotomies of line and shape to create a playground of visual cues and possible meanings. All titles for this collection are given by viewers like you, including “Pretty Things on the Upswing” title by artist Jenna Huisken. #TitleMe! @thejemalshow About the Artist:Jemal Diamond is a resident artist at KALEID Gallery, and has a studio at Visual Philosophy Studios in San Jose, California. He is a graduate of The…

“Ancient Greek Mythos” by David Mejia _ April Feature Exhibit

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Ancient Greek Mythos”new illustrations by resident artist David Mejia. Opening reception: first Friday April 2nd, 5–9pmFree entry, mask required. I have always been fascinated by the ancient Greek mythology. It is exciting, as an adult, to re-imagine that world through my own art. It is a well that feeds and feeds. A study of history reaffirms ancient Greece as the foundation of our own Western Civilization. Everything from philosophy, science, engineering, religion, math, writing, architecture, etc. One can recognize it in so many contemporary things and activities we take for granted such as architecture, democracy, debate, drama, and the concept of individuality. The deepest roots for me are the myths. How the ancient Greeks, and even their forebearers imagined the Universe and forces of nature as anthropomorphized into Gods and Goddesses, all vying with each other, into an uncertain hierarchy, balancing chaos with order. Dominant…

“Melancholy” by Houyee Chow_March Feature Exhibit

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Melancholy” by resident artist Houyee Chow: a feature exhibition for the month of March, 2021. Opening with Artist in attendance:First Friday March 5th, 5pm–9pm. A year ago this show looked completely different in my head and then the pandemic hit. Life can change in an instant and the show I had been planning for 2 years fell short. I thought about giving up and canceling everyday, but I kept thinking about how important this was for me. I decided to completely change direction and picked up my sketchbook to start anew. I found myself in a state of sadness and mourning from the loss of loved ones due to COVID related issues. I realized that I needed a space to feel sad in order to heal and I wanted to create this space for myself and everyone else. My show is titled “Melancholy” from…

“Incongruous” by Matty Heimgartner_March Feature Exhibit

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:“Incongruous” by resident artist Matty Heimgartner; a feature exhibition for the month of March, 2021.Opening with Artist in attendance:First Friday March 5th, 5pm–0pm.I had the opportunity to feature my artwork in two solo exhibitions during my undergraduate career at San Jose State University. The first was a mixed media show made up of colored pencil drawings and written stories about a character I created when I was just seven years old. I am currently writing a fiction novel about her life. The second exhibit followed a similar structure but the drawings were moments from my childhood and much more detailed. A version of that story will become my thesis to earn an MFA in Creative Writing.“Things Unsaid”, my debut exhibit after college, was created so that I could process the damage I created during my years-long struggle with addiction. I composed the next exhibit, Piece…

“Conduits” new work by Steven Borelli February 2021

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Conduits by resident artist Steven Borelli.A feature exhibition for the month of February 2021. Exhibit opens First Friday February 5th, 5pm–9pm. I am a conduit for creativity and my works are the results thereof. Through them we are able to pierce the fragile fabric of this reality and view other dimensions with unimaginable worlds, chaos and order, organic shapes juxtaposed with design elements and. . .  Just kidding. I really am just doodling. But they’re amazing doodles. And we are all conduits for creativity. About the Artist:Steven Borelli has been drawing since he was a fetus. The inside of his mother’s womb is tattooed with the ramblings of his fertile imagination. These days, between fever dreams and feeding his cat, Borelli continues to indulge his imagination by creating art. For art’s sake.  Exhibition dates: February 5– 26, 2021Gallery Hours: Fridays 5pm–9pm, Saturdays 12pm–5pm & by…

Lifecasting Series by Luis Jorge Mieses February 2021

KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Lifecasting Series by resident artist Luis Jorge Mieses. A feature exhibition for the month of February 2021. Exhibit opens First Friday February 5th, 5pm–9pm. The idea behind this series is to show the numerous ways the body parts could be captured. I copy the human figure because as time passes the only things left are the beautiful memories embodied in the sculptures.I make them for different purposes; from getting a commission of an artistic piece to show to keeping memories of our loved ones.Making sculptures represents intimate time with myself. Through it, I get to relax, feel plenty and express my creativity trying to capture the beauty I see around me.I started modeling clay, wood carving and preparing molds for the bodies of animals that I needed for taxidermy, trying – in some way – to restore the animal’s lost life in an artistic form.…

“Shelter” feature exhibition by Brittni Paul Nov. 2020

Art work by Brittni Paul from her Shelter exhibition. KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Shelter by resident artist Brittni PaulShelter: to protect oneself from something harmful, like bad weather. This title was initially given to a piece I completed in October 2019 to describe a mother Pangolin protecting herself and her child in the shelter of a hollow tree trunk. This piece is meant to capture a moment in time where mother and baby are safe in their shelter, much like how we humans shelter-in-place with our loved ones. This exhibition focuses on endangered species sheltered in their homes, weathering out the storm that is extinction. As we sit in our homes contemplating a new way of life, let’s implement eco-friendly habits to protect what’s left of this earthly speck. What better time than now? Brittni Paul is an environmental activist, mix-media illustrator and muralist of flora, fauna and magic!…
