KALEID Gallery is proud to present:Embodied Perception Valentino Loyola solo exhibitionOpening reception: Friday November 4, 2022 5pm–9pmpart of the South First Fridays ArtWalk SJ.Loyola’s photographic artwork, “Embodied Perception,” conceptually, is an ongoing series that speaks to how, he, first, and others construct our own narratives; the realities of our personhoods; how we as individuals perceive ourselves and self-subscribed value, how we conform to the perceptions of self and those of exterior vantage points; not conforming; deconstructing and reconstructing our own realities and the internalizing of these perceptive points then, actively, embodying these perceptions to manifestation becoming a living installation of identity within the public sphere(s). Formally, the work follows two qualitative functions: a physical construction, tear down, and re-construction of the printed photograph and are at large rendered using a solarization, digital process that pulls the light and dark information in an image into opposite directions. The 12:12 Project: Int’l Instant Film Group Exhibit September 2022

Opening Reception: First Friday, September 2nd 5pm–9pmPart of the South FIRST FRIDAYS ArtWalk SJ. About 14 years ago, Polaroid stopped making film and cameras. But photographers around the world with a passion for instant cameras continue to make art with them, using the original (but now long expired) film and some new versions that continue to be made. The 12:12 Project is an international instant film collaborative that has demonstrated since 2013 the continuing creative power of fast-developing analog film. The cast of artists changes a bit each year, but the project remains the same: 24 instant film lovers (and some guest artists) form two teams to each explore 12 themes in 12 months with a goal of pushing the boundaries of the medium. This exhibition is organized by Cromwell Schubarth, a San Jose-based journalist and photographer who has managed the project since its founder, Nashville-based Penny Felts Colbert, passed away…

“A Happier Place” by Julie Bovee Feature Exhibit April 2022

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “A Happier Place” new works by resident artist Julie Bovee. Opening reception: First Friday, April 1st 5pm–9pm.Part of the South First Fridays ArtWalk SJ. As a youth, I loved the song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” by Bobby McFerrin. I played that music video again while writing this synopsis, and it’s impossible to watch that video, with Robin Williams dancing around being a complete dork, and not smile and forget all about my worries. When I sit in my art studio surrounded by all of my colorful flower fields, a similar feeling envelops me. 2021 was a difficult year for me, and for all of us. That rotten pandemic affected everyone, except maybe those rare few living in isolation atop a remote mountain. We’re now seeing a possible light at the end of the COVID tunnel. Mask mandates are gone. Is it for real or…

The Swanmosaic Collection by Xuan My Ho Feature Exhibit April 2022

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: The Swanmosic Collection by resident artist Xuan My Ho. In this exhibition, Xuan includes her mosaic wall hangings and sculptures that represent the array of the styles she has developed over the past 22 years. The inspiration for her creations comes from what she sees in her daily life and while traveling. Her love of animals, the beauty of both nature and cityscapes, as well as drawings of womens’ figures are translated, sometimes in the abstract, in her works. She tries to invoke a story behind the subjects in her mosaics. Xuan uses traditional mosaic materials of glass, ceramic, and tile, but also collects and adds many unique materials to give her pieces a 3-D look, making her work different from other mosaic styles. Opening reception: First Friday, April 1st 5pm–9pm.Part of the South First Fridays ArtWalk SJ. Exhibition dates: April 1–29, 2022 Gallery…

“Writer’s Breakthrough” by Jean-Luc Pedanou Feature Exhibit March 2022

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Writer’s Breakthrough” by Jean-Luc Pedanou I first started painting exclusively for myself in an effort to work through writer’s block while working on a graphic novel. I had read somewhere that engaging in a different artistic endeavor could spur on creativity for writers. Unfortunately that idea failed but only from a literary standpoint but succeeded for me artistically by compelling me to pursue expression through painting and eventually mixed media. I had always wanted to paint and finally gave myself license to try unconditionally. Once I started sharing my work, I was compelled by the diverse reactions I was receiving. I now understand that I love evoking emotion, feeling and imagination from viewers. From the start my feelings were expressed in cascades of colors, light and movement. Eventually however, I felt a need to add more dimension and texture to my work. I love…

“Circle of Life” by Mariya Milovidova _ November 2021 Feature Exhibit

“Three Graces”, Mariya Milovidova, fabric paint on canvas. KALEID Gallery is proud to present:“Circle of Life” by resident artist Mariya MilovidovaThis collection of artworks represents past, present, and the future with some of the design elements chosen from previous current collections as well as the one I been working on during the Pandemic. The Pandemic made me realize that we can never be certain about anything as we live in times of uncertainty. However, it always continues because uncertainty is a part of life. Which makes me think that we need to be adaptable to changes and this is what I did with this collection by incorporating designs from past collections along with more current pieces from newer collections including one which I started working on during the Pandemic. It represents the lessons from the past that we learn, and bring into the future which becomes the present and continues with…
